Anyone who lives in Seattle area most likely knows about the tulips in Skagit Valley (annual event happening in April, drawing large crowds on weekends and making the traffic around Mount Vernon quite bad). Well, this year I found out that before the tulips they have daffodils there. Who would have thought.
The fields of bright yellow daffodils against the backdrop of snowy Mount Baker are lovely. I went on Monday and there was virtually no one there.
Later I found our the event actually has a proper name: La Conner Daffodil Festival. As with tulips, everything is centered around Roozengarde – the local flower producer that has lovely display gardens and fields attracting many visitors. They charge for entry during the peak blooming times, but it’s convenient and well worth it. Of course, you can always just drive around for free, stopping here and there to take photos. It’s beautiful.
